The band name actually comes from Dai Nagao (D.A.I). He could be considered the first member of DAI, as signed on by Avex. In the beginning of DAI's career, he performed with the band publically, playing the rare double-headed guitar. As the band became more popular, Dai became increasingly more reserved, rarely appearing in promotions, but still active in production. After the disbanding, he continued to compose songs for many other notable Avex stars. His long list of collaborations include Ayumi Hamasaki, Every Little Thing, EXILE, Idoling!!!, Koda Kumi, Se7en, and The Trax. He also assisted jpop duo moumoon in getting to a major label and has been seen performing with violinist Aria Asia.
